Introduction to High Bay Lighting and Low Bay Lighting
If you need to light a large indoor space like warehouses, manufacturing facilities, gymnasiums, factories, and big-box retail stores, chances are you're going to choose high bay lighting. High bay light fixtures are usually used in spaces with ceiling heights higher than 15-20 feet. While low bay fixtures are used when ceiling heights are lower than 20 feet. The lighting in these spaces usually needs to cover a lot of vertical space as well as horizontal and therefore needs fixtures that produce a very bright Lumen output. Many low bay and high bay light fixtures are designed to produce a diffused light to help reduce glare. High bay and low bay fixtures are typically suspension mounted using chains or hooks, but they may also have the option of being surface mounted depending on the fixture.
Types of High Bay & Low Bay Lighting
High bay light fixtures can come in several types of light sources. While traditionally found in metal halide or high pressure sodium technologies, many have upgraded to more efficient technologies like fluorescent and LED lighting.
LED Fixtures
LED high bay lighting is the most energy-efficient option on the market. Designed for warehouse lighting, recreation centers, hangars, and storage facilities, these indoor commercial lighting fixtures improve visibility and worker safety while enhancing productivity. LED high bay fixtures are instant on and do not lose life hours from constant on-off cycles the way metal halide (HID) and fluorescent fixtures do. Since the rated life hours of LEDs are significantly higher than other light sources, they do not need to be replaced as often which cuts down on maintenance and replacement costs. The higher efficacy of high bay LED's means less power is consumed to achieve the same light output produced by traditional light sources, which helps you save money on energy costs. Our LED high bay lighting is available in linear and round fixtures, with or without LED bulbs, and emitting a range of Lumen outputs.
Fluorescent Fixtures
Advances in high-intensity fluorescent technology have resulted in the creation of powerful fluorescent high-bays: large, rectangular light fixtures designed to distribute bright, even, energy efficient lighting over wide areas with ceilings higher than 15 feet. Mounting options vary depending on the fixture, but are often suspended or chain mounted. Frequently paired with 2, 3, 4, or 6 high-output T5 or T8 fluorescent tubes, these fixtures can improve light quality in buildings. Fluorescent high bays can save up to 50 percent in energy costs when replacing traditional HID lamps. Because they emit less heat, it also often results in lower air conditioning costs.
